Jewelry Design Certificate of Achievement

This certificate provides students with an in-depth study of the practice, technical strategies, and critical discourse of jewelry design. An emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of design, the execution of jewelry forms, and conceptual and critical thinking. Techniques, including metal fabrication, forming, casting, and stone-setting, will be explored. Participants can then define their path, whether it be career development or personal enrichment.

Program Learning Outcomes 

  1. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
    1. Proficiently propose designs that utilize techniques learned in the classes that will communicate the chosen content of the artist and calculate the material requirements necessary to implement these designs.
    2. Formulate strategies to form, construct, and fabricate designs envisioned and demonstrate skill and craftsmanship in handling metals.
    3. Develop different applications of metal in relationship to other art forms.
    4. Develop an ability to discuss and critically evaluate their own jewelry and metal objects in from both contemporary and historical contexts, with an awareness and understanding of the diverse perspectives of jewelers and makers from across the world.

Certificate of Achievement Requirements:

Note: All courses must be completed with a letter grade of “C” or higher or “Pass.”

Certificate of Achievement

Any student who chooses to complete only the requirements listed above qualifies for a Certificate of Achievement in Jewelry Design.  An official request must be filed with the Admissions and Records Office prior to the deadline as stated in the Academic Calendar.
