Music Education Associate in Arts

This degree program offers lower division preparation for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music education and a California teaching credential in music. The primary emphasis is to prepare students for transfer to four-year music education programs.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate musical literacy and analytical skills by interpreting and analyzing musical works, including their harmonic, stylistic, and structural elements within cultural and historical contexts.
  2. Apply musicianship and performance skills through vocal, instrumental, and ensemble participation that reflects technical proficiency, stylistic understanding, and collaborative artistry.
  3. Integrate pedagogical and technological competencies to support effective music instruction, including the use of digital tools for notation, recording, and music education.
  4. Articulate the professional roles and responsibilities of music educators and apply foundational teaching principles appropriate for secondary or community-based learning environments.
